What we treat

From a weekend sprain to a knee that has hurt for years.

Sport and exercise medicine is the specialty for musculoskeletal problems that do not need a surgeon. We diagnose, treat and plan your recovery, and refer on only when that is the right answer.

Acute injuries

Sprains, strains, muscle tears, fractures that do not need surgery, and injuries that are not settling the way they should.

Persistent joint and back pain

Knee, hip, shoulder, ankle and spine problems, including osteoarthritis and tendon pain that has been going on for months.

Concussion

Assessment after a head knock, symptom management, and a graded return to school, work and sport.

Injection therapies

Ultrasound-guided corticosteroid injections and platelet-rich plasma (PRP) for joints and tendons, done in the clinic.

Shockwave therapy

Extracorporeal shockwave for stubborn tendon problems such as plantar fasciitis, Achilles and gluteal tendinopathy.

Return to sport

Structured rehabilitation plans and clearance decisions for athletes at every level, from club to high performance.

Imaging and referral

We arrange X-ray, ultrasound and MRI where it changes the plan, and refer directly to orthopaedics, radiology and allied health.

Exercise and lifestyle medicine

Help using exercise safely for weight, metabolic health, bone health and recovery after illness.

Specialist assessments

Independent medical and impairment assessments for ACC and insurers, by arrangement.

Your visit & ACC

What happens when you book.

Book directly or get referred

You do not need a referral to see us. If your GP or physio has already seen you, ask them to send through their notes and any imaging so we have the full picture.

Tell us if it is an injury

If your problem started with an accident, ACC will usually cover part of the cost. Bring your ACC claim number if you have one. If a claim has not been lodged, we can lodge it at your appointment.

Your appointment

Initial consultations run about 30 minutes. You will be examined, often with ultrasound in the room, and leave with a diagnosis and a written plan. Wear clothing that lets us see the area.

Follow-up and treatment

Injections, shockwave and rehab reviews are booked as follow-ups. We copy your GP on every consultation unless you ask us not to.

Fees

If your problem is an injury with an accepted ACC claim, ACC pays a contribution towards each consultation and you pay a surcharge on the day. Non-injury consultations, PRP injections and some other treatments are private and are not funded by ACC.

Reception will tell you the fee for your appointment when you book. Fees are payable on the day by EFTPOS or card. If you need to cancel or move an appointment, please let us know as early as you can so the time can be offered to someone else.

For GPs, physiotherapists and other referrers

How to refer.

We accept referrals from any health professional and from patients directly. New patients are usually offered a registrar clinic appointment first, with specialist review as needed.

  • Email referrals to [email protected] with the ACC claim number, relevant notes and any imaging reports.
  • Patients with an accepted ACC claim do not need a new ACC45; please tell us if an ACC32 is pending.
  • We copy the referrer and the patient's GP on every consultation and on any change in diagnosis sent to ACC.
  • For urgent problems (suspected fracture, acute red flags, sideline concussion), phone the clinic directly and we will fit the patient in.
  • Clinicians are welcome to phone for advice before referring.
